Two wierd/sci-fi stories

Hello,

Once I read two stories that were written I would say between 1890 - 1940 but for the life of me I cannot remember the names of the authors or the titles now.

The first one was about a scientist who decided to put himself into a state of hibernation in a cave in woods to wake up again in future. He killed someone and the murder was the cause he was unable to get out of the cave when he woke up; He saw trees of the new world but could not get out.

The second one was about a man who could not remember his previous life but during his adventures he was very close to death and this gradually made him remember what had happened. At one point in the story he fought wolves with hunters and it, as far as I can remember, had the word "memory" in the title.

And my question is; do these descriptions ring a bell with somebody?

It doesn't ring a bell but those two stories seem very interesting. Make sure to post the titles if you find this out some other way, Minicthulhu.

Are we looking for novels, or only short stories?

I hope I don't come across as a grammar snob-- but the word is spelled WEIRD--not wierd. This is just the one misspelling that drives me crazy--especially at a horror site.
I am intrigued about the stories MiniCthulhu has mention'd, & hope that someone can clear up ye mystery.

I think William Shakespeare spelled it "weyard"

Short stories, though the one dealing with memory loss was a longer one. (cca. 30 pages)

Unbelievable! By sheer accident, I have found one of these elusive stories. It is called "Stolen Centuries" (1939) and was written by Otis Adelbert Kline who wrote for pulp magazines between cca. 1920-40.
