Hi,

Has anybody read "Terror" by Dan Simmons (2007)? I have read very positive reviews about the book, it takes place in my favourite environment (Arctic wastes) but so far I have been discouraged from reading it by its monstrous volume. (650 pages ...)

I started to read it twice, but was daunted by its length. It requires a firm commitment. What I read, about the first five chapters was very good. I have other books of shorter length that I want to read first, but The Terror deserves to be read especially if you are intrigued by the Arctic and the Franklin Expedition. There is also The excellent AMC tv series which is in a DVD set. I have it and have seen it. It's worth a watch.

The TV show was magnificent. Ciarán Hinds was amazing in it. I've not read the book yet either but it's on my radar.
