Hello.

In reading older fiction one sometimes comes across the word "void." What exactly does it mean? Cosmic emptiness? Another dimension? Some other concept?

"Baumoff died of heart-failure, of course, obviously! I should never be so foolish as to suggest to any sane jury that, in his extraordinary, self-hypnotised, defenseless condition, he was "entered" by some Christ-apeing Monster of the Void." (Baumoff Explosive by W.H. Hodgson)

"It is a force generated by conditions; but, nevertheless, this does not bring us one iota nearer to its explanation, any more than to the explanation of electricity or fire. They are, all three, of the outer forces--monsters of the void." (The Derelict by W.H.Hodgson)

That which is without Earthly relation or connection, separated from established human/organic experience. The madness where there is no recognizable space of up and down, back and forward, left or right, to relate to and hold on to. Whether this be the manifested madness of the emptiness in-between the stars, or an inner spiritual abysmal state. This could be a realm of demons, and other horrible monsters, a realm in which we are very vulnerable, but also possible victims of transformation into something else and, if God/Chance be willing, better (albeit painful at the beginning).

Or the astrological charts point towards it.
