This is a very enjoyable group and I now wonder if any of you are aware of any comparable literature appreciation groups.

I just finished with McCarthy's The Outer Dark, a work of his that I had somehow missed previously, and was struck by a functional thematic similarity between Flannery O'Connor's The Misfit in A Good Man is Hard to Find, and the trio of unnamed murders who weave in and out of the plot of Outer Dark.

I have not used it, but GoodReads has a discussion forum at the bottom of the page. It is probably an enormous group, with tens of thousands of members, in which you can focus in and discuss any author you like. Cormac McCarthy

[www.sffchronicles.com] is a good place to discuss classic or modern works of science fiction, weird fiction, horror, etc.

Yes, and Dale Nelson is tutoring Tolkien classes there too, and is eager for more participants to join in.

The Eldritch Dark forum is a place existing in limbo. It should attract more users, but it doesn't. Just like the writings of CAS. CAS is as gigantic a literary genius as Lovecraft and Poe. But still, virtually unknown. Every attempt to make him famous has backfired. The explanation to this is partly supernatural, and can be found in his stories, such as "The Chain of Aforgomon", and partly one of sentiment; he is too cosmically refined for people, with a heightened perspective floating above the heads of most.

My gut feeling is that when I first read his stuff, almost *no one* knew of him. If this is accurate, he is at present much more well known than before.

Personally, I prefer his best works to anything Poe or Lovecraft did. But he is *very* uneven, and much of his work is poetry.
