What a sad ending to such a contentious thread. And what a sad commentary on the internet that what started out as a mere request for info devolved into pointless declarations of dislike, last-wordism bickering, and general kvetching on unrelated topics. Let's hope Mr. Daniels receives a better obituary elsewhere.

You forgot self-righteous posturing, I'd recommend adding it to your list. ;-)

If by "self-righteous" you doubt my sincerity, the burden of proof is on you.

But the toxic aggression of this forum is half its appeal! :)

If you think this is toxic aggression, you have not been around much.

Nah, this thread is just a microcosm of the wider cosmic beauty of the hostile cold void that is the Eldritch Dark...

But, I'm not slagging it off... (as some have in other places) I love this place... I can't stand the dull manners of civilized society...

No, I thought that your self-righteous remarks were entirely sincere.

English Assassin:

Just saw your remark in the other thread. Please, don't keep all those brilliant counter-arguments you've been nursing against my views all to yourself! ;-)

Anyway, to return the compliment, I suppose I am not in the habit of agreeing with you (or most anyone here), either, but the point about the self and its modularity is a good one--and it's a veritable stake in the heart to one-dimensional criticism such as Callaghan's.

As to the alleged "toxic aggression", I say, have fun with it, as I do here, most of the time. A little intellectual hormesis does the body good.

Gosh, how did I know you were going to say exactly that?

At any rate, if I came across as "self-righteous" (some of you may want to look that up), it was entirely unintentional. I certainly don't hold myself or my opinion above anyone else's, in most cases (and this wasn't one of them). When I do, I try not to let it show. And if perchance I rub anyone the wrong way, well, I ain't in the massage business.

EDIT: You know what? Screw everything I just said. I'm tired of always taking the high road. I'm sick of always trying to be conciliatory. Most times my opinion and stance are above the rest. And you're a putz, Absquatch, a smug, needling, negative nudnik who's in love with the metaphorical sound of his own internet voice.

There! I feel much better now.

See what I mean? Look at Stan, above, for example. After his cathartic outburst, he feels much better now!

Get off the fence, Stan - and just say what you mean!

I doubt that Stan will be back to favor us with his new-found love of plain talk. No doubt he's off in search of a forum worthy of him, where his opinions and stances that are usually above the rest will be properly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that that little assertion of manhood, above, reminded me of Monty Python's "Marriage Counsellor" sketch. Enjoy.

Another Weird Tales and comic book artist I would love to have more information on is Matt Fox. I love his cartoony Basil Wolverton-type drawing style.

Peter Normanton's From the Tomb magazine has published some comic book artwork by Fox, but very little is apparently really known about him. August Derleth's collected weird stories from Battered Silicon Dispatch also utilize some illustrations by Fox on their covers.

I detested L.B. Coye's artwork at first, since all I had to judge him from were the grotesque-looking Arkham House covers he did for the HPL-books in the 1960's. But the Ortiz book really showcases his wide artistic range, his really cool Gothic-aesthetic, as well as the various interesting techniques he used, including sculpture and miniatures. I was very impressed. Plus, it helps that Coye lived right near my own section of New York state, so I could really relate to his creepy aesthetic; there is a picturesque amount of architectural and familial decay in that area.
