Noting that our new guy likes to be relieved of his funds prompts me
at last to yield some of my treasures.
Before going on ebay, I thought best to offer my fellow devotees
first crack at the following CAS books:

1. The Double Shadow - Auburn Journal Press,1933 - signed "For William
Farmer, hoping he will like some of these fantasies, from Clark Ashton
Smith Nov.15th, 1957

2. Sandalwood - Copy number 48 of 250, printed by the Auburn Journal,
Oct. 1925, Signed - (This was hard to get even in the 50's - Clark
had none to give or sell - my copy was given to me by Ethel Heiple.

3. Ebony and Crystal - Signed as copy number 147 of 500, signed in the
front: "For Bill, with the regards of the after-holiday season. from
Clark Ashton Smith 1957 - 1958 (I spent New Years with Clark and Carol
that year - my Freshman year in college).

4. The Star Treader - 1912 Philopolis Press - Signed in very upright
and formal script by 18 year old Clark -Clark Ashton Smith, Auburn, Cal
Nov. 25th, 1912 -- and in his usual handwriting - For Bill Farmer,
this pale-bound volume of yesteryear, from Clark Ashton Smith -
Sept. 14th, 1958

I am not setting a price, you guys know the market as well as I - as
gifts to me from a very dear friend, they are hard to part with; yet
I feel they belong in the hands of those who will treasure them until
they too have reached an age where they may go on to another "keeper
of the flame". email is remraf3@att.net - fax 361-882-5235.

Actually I mentioned I'm happy to be talked out of spending money, not to be talked into it. Rent and bills eat up most all of my earnings and expensive books are luxuries I can't often afford.

You list some great stuff, I'd kill for even one of the books listed. But I know their value is more than I can offer. Still I wonder.

On a different topic Dr. Farmer, I know you have written a remembrance or article on your friend CAS for one of the Hippocampus books (which I don't own yet). Have you published other writings about CAS? I'd love to hear more of your friendship with him.

Roger

Thanks for writing,
The Sword of Zagan has my memoir in it. I have not publicly written
elsewhere of my friendship with Clark - other than here: scattered
throughout the forum are various responses to questions I have been
asked. I have shared a good deal with Scott Connors which may show
up in his biographical work; and, as you may guess, there are some
things I will not share for good cause. If you wish to write me
at my email, so I can respond outside the forum, I may be able to satisfy
you a bit. You would, as are all persons of similar interest, be welcome
to visit me. An evening of conversation, high wit and humor, a little
red wine, black bread and cheese would recreate for you an evening with
Clark -
Dr. F
