There's been some weird author related topics on Radio 4's A Point of View by John Gray just lately, including Machen, Mervyn Peake and Walter de la Mare.

I caught the Machen item, which you'd expect from a Machenist. :)

I think all three were interesting and thoughtful pieces. I've read Straw Dogs by Gray, which I really liked... I'm tempted to buy his new book which is about writers... I wouldn't be surprised if these shows were taken in part from that.

Did the Peake one cover any of his poetry?

No, it was just Gormenghast based from what I remember.

I've been reading the poetry, and while it is not weird, and while the bulk of it is more High Modernist than not, it sheds light on Peake's interests and writing. It was also written while he was writing the Gormenghast books (and after he contracted Parkinsons), so there is some degree of overlap of interest. Plus, as a bonus, the Carcenet edition has many examples of his artwork.

Not CAS I'm afraid, but more Machen coming up on BBC Radio 4...
