Soft phosphorescent mists glow green
Above the desert's stark terrain,
Where strange stones harbor shapes unseen
By nightfall's diamantine domain.
Its petrifying lunar gaze
Chills the still, predacious dance:
Coyotes tread the somber maze
Of thickened silence, lost in trance,
Where owls' feverish stares illume
And crystallize the lunar void.
Black, silent presences assume
Vast casts of cacti, coralloid,
By marble glints of faint moonrise.
In Earth's anhydrous abattoirs,
The ancient song of twilight dies
Beneath vast skeletons of stars.
