Opus 1685: A Terzanelle for a Lover too Late

Phillip A. Ellis

Your form, your being, song, your heart entrance
this little being, this little man.
I would have loved you, had I the chance

yet I lacked the chance--was this your plan?
I would have loved you; had you been fair,
this little being, this little man

would have never sought another's care
when knowing you loved him not. I swear
I would have loved you had you been fair.

By fire and water, by earth and air,
I know, by elements of all, see
when knowing you loved me not--I swear

too late are your chains that seek me free
ever as dreams, fair to ever view
I know, by elements of all, see:

I loved you; your dream, your storms, your dew,
your form, your being, song, your heart entrance
ever as dreams, fair to ever view--
I would have loved you had I the chance.
