Are they one and the same?

I don't know. What is "sociological consciousness"? You would think I'd know, being trained as a sociologist, but I admit ignorance in this case.

I'm guessing the answer to your question is "no", however, as Freud (whom I have read) developed the concept of "superego" as a way of explaining the presence of society's strictures and judgments within the individual human psyche.

I would say that all experience is to be had at the individual level, so if I'm intuiting what you mean by sociological consciousness correctly, I would argue that no such animal draws breath.

Hello, Radovarl, and thanks for your response.

A participant at ED, Dale Nelson, has developed a sort of perceptual dichotomy model using the terms "poetic consciousness" and "sociological consciousness", and we've been kicking it around for a few weeks, exploring the model.

The subject line question was my latest attempt to further the exploration.

I'd tell you more--and more precisely--but the topic is still in the process of formulation and definition, so far as I can see.

Thanks again.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I look forward to seeing these concept developed further.

Radovarl, perhaps take a look at the comment I just posted about poetic consciousness and sociological consciousness at the Fritz Leiber thread.
