Gylas' Hymn to Mordiggian: a fragment

Phillip A. Ellis

All hail Mordiggian, Eater of the Damned Dead,
the Lord of Black Abyss, and Lord of the Last Rite.
All hail to Thee, my Dark Lord, Dispeller of Dread
at Mortals' Death, whose eidolon of tachylyte
embodies mastery over mortal delight.
Though slight I be, Thy strength makes mine swiftly increase,
so I may swift dispel the lies of blatherskite
who sees Thee as an enemy whose realm must cease.

Oh, enemies surround mine heart, and threaten death,
but mine sweet martyrdom will swell thy Realm of Night,
and so with all my fellow worshippers. No breath,
no deed of mine will lead me to cast off Thy fight
against Thy many enemies 'mongst men. Delight,
my Lord, in Thy meet slave, for Thou I daren't betray.
Lend strength to my scythe, so that necromancers might
bewail Thy just fury and adamant dismay.

May Thy ire, like a thunderhead o'er chersonese,
destroy defilers, as I this most rich pelisse....
