Through the forest, the kiwi seeks

Phillip A. Ellis

Through the forest, the kiwi seeks
for fine repast to pluck and eat
as drops of rain on fern-leaves beat
and night recurves across its beak.

No cantrip cast could match its spell
   nor rune embody its delights,
   instead, within this drizzling night,
the magick of life’s alive and well.
