Clark Ashton Smith

Minutes and hours and days and months and years
As life-blood flowing from a lethal wound!
Let knee to knee and breast to breast be bound,
And still awhile the trembling of our fears.

Ah, deep in love's oblivion withdrawn,
As in some far and faery place to dwell,
Nor hear the sinister metallic knell
Of pendulums at moonset or at dawn.

Though time runs on, and star nor sun may stay,
Your beauty is the maze of my delight,
Where I can lose the minutes in their flight
And know not when today is yesterday.
