Collected Fantasies in Europe

Hello

Do you have any suggestions how I could can get my hands on a copy of the "Collected Fantasies" here in Germany ? I usually order books from amazon.de or co.uk but they both show the book as unavailable. I also checked Amazon.com but even they list it as
"Usually ships within 4 to 6 weeks" and of course I really would like to avoid the the horrible long waiting time of "Standard International Shipping" or the equally horrible costs of using "Priority International Courier".

Yours
Stefan

I live in the UK and have ordered direct from Night Shade; I gather the books are shipping now. Otherwise, you need to find a bookstore nearer to you that deals with small press titles. In the UK, I can recommend the Fantasy Centre in London - I don't know if they can get a copy to you quicker than the publisher - it might be worth emailing them. A great shop if you're ever in town.

Just a reminder to our foreign (i.e., non-US) friends that I am always on the lookout for foreign language editions of Smith's work that I don't have, especially in Spanish and Japanese (would love to get the edition of The Colossus of Ylourgne Boyd has posted on this site!). (I have everything that I know about in German, Dutch, and Finnish, and have most of the Italian and French, but am missing a few volumes, such as the NeO editions of Morthylla and La Gorgon.) This includes anthology appearances! I am very happy to trade books for books, so if you have something, let me know!
Best wishes,
Scott Connors

Hmm, the chances are that you may not have every anthology appearance in Finnish, there are 6:
* The Empire of Necromancers in "Velhojen valtakunta" (1989)
* The Gorgon in "Outoja tarinoita 1" (1990)
* Genius Loci in "Outoja tarinoita 4" (1992)
* The Garden of Adompha in "Weird Tales" (1992, ed. Peter Haining)
* The Tale of Satampra Zeiros in "Mustan jumalan suudelma" (1993)
* Ubbo-Sathla in "Musta kivi" (1995)

I could look out for second hand copies if you really want to; "Velhojen valtakunta" is a bit rare, though.

Best,
Juha-Matti

Is this a book or anthology or the magazine?

It would be one of the paperback anthologies of tales, edited by Mr Haining and drawn from the magazine. I've seen them from time to time.

Sure. It purported to be a collection of sword & sorcery fantasy, though I don't know if that's very accurate... Landmark collection anyway. "The Empire"s actually the title tale in the book.

That's what it is, a translation of the Haining anthology, not an original collection in Finnish -- slightly abridged (some of the poems were dropped).

Hmm, am I supposed to be able to edit the contents of the bibliography entry?

The "Viimeinen hieroglyfi" collection doesn't appear to be in the traslations bibliography either, so I could add that as well.

The biblio main page is broken, btw: [www.eldritchdark.com]

You can no longer edit the bibliography only I can. Proberbly best if you emailed me anything not in it that you have, thanks.

OK.

Have any subscribers in the UK received their copies yet? I haven't - I emailed Nightshade and was told not to panic as its surface mail - but I'm still concerned...

I haven't in NZ and I'm sure it was listed as airmail for subscribers. My email to Nightshade goes unanswered.

I don't think it was -- airmail for subscribers, that is. I seem to recall an announcement on the Night Shade forum that the UK was "about one month", and Australia "even longer". I e-mailed them last week (I think it was) and was told that it would be about six weeks before I got it here in Sweden, which (I know the mail service) means it'll probably take no less than eight weeks in real life. Since my book was shipped on January 25, I won't get it until this or next week, if the Night Shade prognosis holds true. Which is fine by me, since my birthday is coming up soon. :-)

It was airmail, I checked, the last air mail package i got from the states took 3 weeks, average is closer to two. I'll be annoyed if it turns up having been sent surface mail.

I subscribed in March 2005 - and no sign of the book yet. I emailed a few weeks back and have had no reply. I am sure that I was told it would be airmailed.
