...by Scott Connors probably come out? I've been holding off on buying any other Smith biographies in the hopes that I can pick up that one, so I was just curious.

Isn't there a biography called "The Sorcerer Departs"? (I could be erroneously counting memoirs, however.)

Go for "The Sorcerer Departs" in the mean time -- it's not very expensive.

Yep, go for it. It's a good introduction to him, and it is both a fine memoir and an excellent little discussion of the work. I have a copy of the Tsathogghua Press edition, signed by DSF himself.

I am still working on the Smith biography, but it seems to me that CAS is better served by getting his stories and poems back into print than writing a biography that refers to stories which are not available. Besides, textual work on the "Collected Fantasies" is helping me to notice how Smith developed as a writer and how his treatment of various themes developed and changed as he evolved. There are a few areas that need more investigation, and I need to read a few more books on literary theory, but most of the heavy lifting is finished.

Well, I certainly am anxious to see how the biography turns out once it's finished. It is indeed interesting to note simply by reading Smith's tales how his philosophical views evolved. In many ways, one could regard at least several of both Smith's and Lovecraft's stories as "fictional memoirs."
