B&N HPL collection

I suspect that this edition of Lovecraft tales, edited by Joshi, published by Barnes & Noble, will be called "the poor man's OUTSIDER." It claims to be the complete fiction and certainly has a lot of stuff in it. It is also a fairly good-sozed book in black binding so that might also lead to the name. The typeface is readable to my aging eyes.

Yup, it's already been mentioned in the "Definitive Lovecraft texts?" thread. Actually, it's way better than The Outsider, because it really has all the fiction, except the revisions and collaborations (and I'm sure those will turn up eventually, too, but maybe not from the same publisher). I've placed an order for six copies with my friendly American contact, with more to come (no Swedish bookstore can get it, and I don't want to create yet another user account with yet another Internet bookstore).
I'm glad to hear that the typeface is OK -- so far I haven't heard much about the physical quality of the book, except that the binding seems decent.

It should be mentioned that the book was printed in China. What would HPL think: publisher is in hated NYC and the printing was done in China?

Nah, just lots of friends with no B&N accounts. But I'm ghoing to need more later -- I'm thinking of making this the Christmas Gift of the Year.

Can you order it from somewhere else, besides their website? I live in Poland and the final price doubles, because of the shipping rates...

No, I'm afraid not. :-(
I'm ordering from my friend Gavin Smith who posts here sometimes (www.gavinicussbooks.com), and I'm ordering for a bunch of friends as well. My suggestion is that you gather some buddies who want the book too, and then order together to keep the cost of shipping down.

I'm puzzled that you baulked at the price. I live in the UK and although when I ordered it the pound wasn't quite so weak against the dollar (well against pretty much everything really) it wasn't strong either, but the initial cost is so reasonable to start (and the shipping is pretty good to for such a fat tome) with I didn't think twice about it. Especially if you compare it to buying the Arkham versions. Of course it depends on your finances at the time. Anyway, I hope you got your copy in the end as its a seriously nice item.
