Gramatically speaking we could take this several ways -

This could be said to mean that "Pity" is like unto a "Depraved Nature".
Hence, pity is a depravity. Or that the presense of Pity causes Nature
to become Depraved.
Or,...
That a Pathetic lack of Talent in some Film Makers is expressed in their
readiness elicit pity in a manner depraved to nature.
Or,...
That Audiences are by nature Depraved and it's a Pity that Film Makers of
little Talent have no other option but to appeal to same Depravity to sell
tickets.
Or,...?
I'm still uncertain why it is Piteous for Film Makers of little Talent to
appeal to audiences who are Depraved in the first place. They seem made for
each other.
