A film was coming on TV yesterday which exigencies of the time required that I miss. The heading said it was based on Lovecraft story whose name I did not get - it appeared to be about some scientists finding a way to use the Pineal gland to travel between dimensions - I don't recall the story or the name of the film although I think it may have included the word "beyond" - I was leaving my TV room rapidly upon orders of "she who must be obeyed"--
if anyone recognizes this from my ragged description, be good enough to let me know on the forum plese.

It must be From Beyond (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091083/) -- anyway, "From Beyond" is the story that best fits your description.

Yep; sounds very much like Stuart Gordon's film of "From Beyond", save that, i neither the original tale nor the film do the scientists travel to other dimensions, but rather the barriers between these a broken down, and that which exists but is not apprehended by us is made manifest. The stimulation of the pineal gland reawakens dormant (or undeveloped) senses, resulting in such perception (as well as some very strange effects on the human system which Lovecraft certainly never envisioned....

It must be. It's one of the better Lovecraft adaptations for me, along with the even better "Dagon" also directed by Stuart Gordon. Gordon helme Re-Animator too, and while it's great it doesn't touch the Lovecraftian elements in the others.

Fair warning: the Stuart Gordan-directed version of From Beyond contains some strong S&M imagery. It's been released on DVD with previously cut footage (long thought to have been lost) restored,

I am not easily shocked - what is pathetic is that some film makers have so little talent that their only way to get an audience is to appeal to that depraved nature which some like to nurture - pity.

Gramatically speaking we could take this several ways -

Quote:
to that depraved nature which some like to nurture - pity.

This could be said to mean that "Pity" is like unto a "Depraved Nature".
Hence, pity is a depravity. Or that the presense of Pity causes Nature
to become Depraved.

Or,...

That a Pathetic lack of Talent in some Film Makers is expressed in their
readiness elicit pity in a manner depraved to nature.

Or,...

That Audiences are by nature Depraved and it's a Pity that Film Makers of
little Talent have no other option but to appeal to same Depravity to sell
tickets.

Or,...?

I'm still uncertain why it is Piteous for Film Makers of little Talent to
appeal to audiences who are Depraved in the first place. They seem made for
each other.

Just kidding & Happy Father's Day to All,

The film is questions is "From Beyond" (1986) directed by Stuart Gordon, starring Jeffrey Combs. I really enjoyed this adaptation. It is available at many dvd stores.
