Since the Sea of Galilee (ancient Chinnereth) is completely below sea level - this is clearly a phenomenon that will require considerable help from the Geology department - my guess is that whatever it is could go back as far or farther than Gobekli-Tepi - and, for a side note, no ships ever sailed that sea that carried significant ballast - all were smaller than 30 feet by 15 - (earlier ambitious modifications of the Coracle)
